I was hoping for much more background story rather than just action. The movie Battle: Los Angeles. It's much more of a cliché war movie than an alien invasion film. Timid shy Marine who immediately gets separated. This movie took away character building, cutesy children, silly sidekicks, dysfunctional families, etc. But hey not everyone loves Titanic either.
